Imelda Staunton In Talks To Play Queen Elizabeth In The Crown

The Crown season 3 might have just started airing on Netflix last weekend, and new series star Olivia Colman may be set to continue playing the role for season 4, but that hasn’t stopped the streaming service from starting to looking for her replacement for seasons 5 and 6. Deadline is reporting that Imelda Staunton is already in talks to take over playing Queen Elizabeth II from Colman when the time comes.

Staunton is best known for her role as Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter series of films. She is currently in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and the Downton Abbey film, as well as starring opposite Martin Freeman in the TV drama A Confession.

Netflix has yet to comment on the casting rumour, as apparently the negotiations are a long way off from being completed. They are also focused on filming season 4, instead of releasing any news on seasons beyond that. Seasons 5 and 6 haven’t even been announced yet either, as there hasn’t been an official green light given to renew the series beyond season 4. Word is however that a deal has been reached.

Claire Foy starred in the role for the first two seasons, with Colman recently taking over. Colman is contracted for two seasons as well, before someone else will take over.
