Netflix To Back Bradley Cooper’s Next Film

Oscar nominated actor, writer, producer and director Bradley Cooper’s next film is set to be backed by Netflix, after Paramount backed out. The drama will follow the life story of legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein, the genius behind the Oscar-winning film West Side Story. The film will be produced by Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Todd Phillips and Kristie Macosko Krieger.

While it’s unclear why Paramount backed out of backing the film, it might have something to do with the lack of recognition of Bernstein himself. After all, while older generations may know who he is, younger movie goers might have no idea. This of course means the film may not be a big commercial success. Steven Spielberg may changed that later this year though when his remake of West Side Story hits theaters. At one point there was also another Bernstein bio-pic on the way with Jake Gyllenhaal set to star, but it was eventually cancelled.

The film will be Cooper’s first since his film A Star Was Born was released on 2018. For this one he will produce and co-write the script, as well as star as Bernstein. The film will take place over 30 years, telling the story of the conductors marriage to Felicia Montealegre, and his affairs with men before and after their wedding.

Netflix has seen a fair bit of success making movies over the last few years, with their latest releases The Irishman, Marriage Story and The Two Popes all receiving Oscar nominations.
