Fans of The Walking Dead must be holding their breath over this latest news. One of the stars of the hit AMC series, Lauren Cohan, has signed on for a lead role in a new ABC pilot called Whiskey Cavalier. What that means for her future on the long running zombie series is unclear, but fans are hoping it doesn’t mean she will bite the dust before season eight is complete.
Cohan has been with the Walking Dead since season two, when she debuted as Maggie, and quickly became one of the most popular characters on the series. Rumours have started spreading recently though that she’s been battling with AMC over her salary for season nine and has yet to sign a new contract. One of the thoughts is that she will walk away from the series as she has been actively looking for a new role. The Hollywood Reporter is stating that their sources have told them that the actress and her agents are not happy with the lowball offers they have received from AMC, and that they remain far apart with the network after months of negotiations. They do report however that other sources have stated that AMC is aggressively pursuing Cohan to resign.
Whiskey Cavalier also stars Scott Foley, and is described as an action-dramedy about a FBI super-agent and a CIA operative who team up. Cohan would play the CIA agent. With the role being one of the leads, and not a supporting role, it is unclear if Cohan would be able to star in both series. She could possibly see her role shrunk to a re-occurring one for The Walking Dead if the pilot is picked up, or she could follow the route of several other stars of the hit series and be killed off. Last year Sonequa Martin-Green was announced as the star of Star Trek: Discovery while her character was still alive in The Walking Dead, and was killed off in the finale.
